Our sailing adventure in Prince William Sound was soon coming to an end. We were heading back to Whittier after six days at sea experiencing everything from roaming glaciers to temperate rain forest. I was a bit emotional about our days in Prince William Sound being over. This had been one of the best experiences in my life and had exceeded all my expectations. On the other hand our travel in Alaska was not over. Our next destination was the Kenai Peninsula, the home of fishing, black bears and eagles. And off course, you can’t avoid getting some hands on fishing experience going to the world’s most famous fishing playground. Follow our blog posts to see bragging pictures of me landing a 15 pound silver.
As we came closer to Whittier it felt appropriate for the Dall’s Porpoise to give us their farewell, until next time.
If you missed out on any of our Prince William Sound posts, or are new on this blog (welcome!), here’s a recap.
4. Our first tidewater glacier
5. Kayaking under a roaming glacier
6. Hiking on a field of blueberries
10.Try catch that salmon with you hands
12.Exploring the remnants of a gold mine

Thanks for sharing this; it’s so thrilling to see them up so close
Thank Maria, I was pretty excited. So fun to see them play in the waves from the boat! 🙂 Thanks for commenting.
What a great journey, you give us inspiration for a future trip 🙂
Thank you so much – you would not regret a trip to Alaska!
Really gorgeous photos. It was fun to see and experience your trip with you. It looks like a glorious place to visit and you look like you have had a wonderful time.
We had the time of our life – so much fun and so much adventure. I would go back in a heart beat. Thanks for following our adventure and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
We look forward to going back there, Inger. Thanks so much for posting your adventure! It brings back a lot of great memories.
Jim
And I get to re-live the moment by sharing it! We would go back in a heart beat. It is such an amazing place isn’t it?
It sure is. I would love to spend an entire summer up there.
Ah, that would be a dream scenario:)
Very cool video – reminds me of a trip years ago when my daughter was lying in the net of a catamaran with bottlenose dolphins swimming underneath. These are the joys in life!

Must have been such a great moment watching the dolphins! The Doll’s Porpoise reminded me of a dolphin in size, but had the look of an orca with its black and white appearance. The only time I have seen dolphins is in the Amazon, but it was only from a far distance. Thanks for taking the time to comment:)
It looks like an Orca indeed!
What a great experience. Truly one that you will never forget, thanks for sharing it with the world. Also look out for Moose on the Kenai. If you get down to Seward, the Kenai National Park is a great place to go out into. You have to take a boat out there to experience the park. Lots of whales, dolphins, glaciers and beautiful scenery. We talked to the lady at the art shop in Homer and she said that they have a kayak tied up at the dock that we could just go out and enjoy the spit. Check the art shop up the hill, nice photos and nice people. Enjoy, Jim
You are definitely correct, we will never forget this trip. It is a once in a lifetime experience (though I still hope we get the opportunity to go back!) We did actually go down to Seward where we stayed at a bed & breakfast with an amazing retired couple who made us fried egg and sausage every morning. And we also checked out the national park based on their recommendations, it was awesome! Post with photos will come once I get to it:)
We also stopped by Homer – definitely a place I want to go back to. Next time we’ll be sure to check out the art shop! I also read about some great hikes across the fjord from Homer, you didn’t to try any of them did you?
Thanks for commenting Jim!
No, we did not have time to hike around Homer, the country is just too big to see everything. Glad you are having fun. Jim
I forgot to tell you why we went to Homer. We were staying in Soldotna at a cabin so we went to the visitors center to get advice and places to visit. The attendant said that there was nothing to do in Soldotna and we should go down to Homer, so we did and enjoyed it. funny bit of advice from a visitor center. Have fun, Jim
Haha..that is a funny story. You would think the local visitor centre would try to recommend some local activities. But I guess if you are not into fishing there might not be that much to do in Soldotna:)
I’m astonished by your incredible photos and your descriptive notes on this stunning trip!
Thanks so much for sharing such an amazing experience!
Thank you so much for your generous comment! It was just a please sharing, I got to re-live every adventure:) Thanks for following our Alaska journey.
Love the porpoise video. Takes me back to when I worked on a charter boat in the Caribbean. I would be down below and call up to the charterers that there were dolphins about. They thought I was some sort of wildlife witch. I simply could hear the dolphin’s clicks. The sound would travel through the hull. Good trick!
That is a great trick! I have to admit I have actually never seen dolphins close up, but I have heard the clicking sound they make on animal shows on tv (I see a lot of them to my husband despair..hehe). I guess the Doll’s Porpoise is related so that will have to count:) Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Wow! I am always blown away by your posts! The photography and the places you go are just amazing!
Thank you so much for you generous comment – and for following our Alaska adventure! A pleasure sharing the wonders of Alaska:)
She is very beautiful your video, it’s beautiful to sail among the porpoises …
Thank you for sharing.
I wish you a good day.
Thank you so much Hervé! It was so much fun having the Doll’s Porpoise playing in the waves of the boat:) They are beautiful. Have a great day!
What a wonderful adventure!
it was for sure! I still smile just thinking about the trip, hoping I get the opportunity to go back one day. Thanks for commenting!
Such beautiful animals they are!
They are stunning! They reminded me of dolphins in size, but they looked like a orca with their back and white pattern. Thanks for stopping by Emilie!
Very appropriate ending. Good luck with the future.
I agree Alix, it was the perfect ending to our Prince William Sound journey. Thanks for following it – and hopefully you’ll stop by again as there is more to come from Kenai Peninsula.
Your posts are so amazing! I can’t wait to see Alaska.
Thank you so much LuAnn. I am still filled with happiness and gratitude thinking back at what we have experienced. Alaska is just amazing! You will love it.
A wonderful trip to follow and what a finale with the porpoise – look forward to the next leg of your adventure.
Thank you so much for you generous comment, and thanks for following our Alaska adventures. It has been a please sharing it as I get to re-live every moment. And so much fun getting your comments along the way!
A great recap! I love the way you put your travel on a map – great idea!
Awesome adventure travels – I think I missed some post, I will try to catch up this week 🙂 Have a wonderful week ahead Inger!
Thank you so much Indah! I have to admit the map is partially for me as well so that I remember all out locations when I looks back at it a year from now. It has been a pleasure sharing the journey as I get to re-live it, and thanks for all your sweet comments along the way!
The video is fantastic! That’s a great farewell salute from these loveable porpoises — I like it when the one flips over, a kind of wave. I’ve really enjoyed your adventures here Inger, and appreciate your articulate posts, great maps, and exquisite photos. 🙂
Thank you so much for you generous comment Jet. Your comments throughout this series have been much appreciated. It was the first time meeting porpoises for me, these ones looked like mini-orcas I though:) Very fun watching them, they seemed very playful. Thanks for stopping by again!
What a wonderful trip to Alaska! Richard grew up in Alaska and we spent one summer in college there together working for the National Park Service. We still visit Alaska since family is there. It is a beautiful place!
