Time has come for the curtain to fall on our Alaska series Denali to Kenai. This is the 23rd and last post in the series. Thank you to everyone who has followed and commented on our posts – it has been a blast!
In this last post I will leave you with some wonderful sunsets and our personal Top 3 adventures from Alaska.
Hubby is documenting the sunset over Cook Inlet
NUMBER 1: Kayaking under a roaming glacier
We spent the morning kayaking under Harvard Glacier completely surrounded by floating icebergs. Read about it here.
Number 2 : Denali National Park and Preserve
Tundra, taiga, glacier, permafrost, wildlife, North-America’s tallest mountain – you name it, Denali has it all!
number 3 : Hiking the Harding Icefield
The Harding Icefield hike on Kenai Peninsula is one of the most spectacular hikes I have ever done. It left me amazed and full of gratitude.
To read about what else we were up to in the last frontier check out our post Denali to Kenai that sums up all our Alaska posts.
Which Alaskan Adventures would make your Top 3 list?
What is up next you say? The answer is Yellowstone. We spent 3 weeks in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park in September this fall and can’t wait to share the photos and amazing experiences with you.
Well… just stunning….thanks for sharing the adventure. Merry New Year.

Yellowstone, its about 4 hours from here but we have not been there for many years. My wife’s cousin has a cattle ranch north of Gardner and thats about as far as we get. We try to get to Glacier NP for the hiking. Time well worth spent. I have enjoyed the photos from Alaska and look forward to Yellowstone/Tetons photos. Jim

Thanks Jim! I can definitely see that Glacier has more to offer than Yellowstone of you like summits and mountains lakes (and I do). We did some hikes in Yellowstone, but they are quite different than Glacier and here in the Canadian Rockies. But I absolutely loved the wildlife and thermal features in Yellowstone. Quite spectacular.
Seems like I am not able to find your blog Jim. There is no link in your profile. Would you be able to leave a link here under comments please?
Thanks for stopping by!

Inger, here is the web address, http://lightthroughthelens.com/. Yellowstone is unique and Glacier is special. Its actually called Glacier Waterton International Peace Park. You could hike from Waterton to Glacier. The western side of Glacier is our favorite area, rough roads so it keeps many tourists away. have a great day. Jim

Thank you so much for your sweet comment! The light was beautiful this day so I think any camera would do, but I think this one was captured with an Olympus OMD EM-1.

Love your top 3! Playing at the edge of a tidewater glacier definitely makes my top 3 as well – in my case it was a rowboat at Columbia Glacier. I had so much fun that Seth got the rowboat this year when we were playing in the polar pack ice, and I sailed the big boat while he took photos – that was one of the biggest highlights! Wildlife also makes my top 3, for sure, whether in Denali or elsewhere!

Thanks a bunch Ellen! There are so many things that could be on a top 3 list from Alaska, but being on the water surrounded by ice was just such thrill! 🙂 And Denali….ahhh…don’t get me started. Loved it! Thanks for stopping by:)

Wow, Inger this is such an awesome post. Should have known with the title being “Alaskan Sunset” that it would be special ~ a beautiful way to bring in the New Year. Favorite shot, however, is the 2nd ~ a smile to melt the cold. The best to you with your writing and photography in the New Year. Cheers to a great 2016.
