Calgary, Alberta Even though it is subzero degrees outside there are lots of opportunities to get out to get some sun and maybe grab some pictures! One of the nice places to go in Calgary is Princes Island Park. The park located just north of the downtown core is always crowded with people and birds. It is a great place to get pictures of Mallards, Canada Goose and Common Goldeneye that spend winter in town. The birds are used to getting food from people so you can get pretty close without them being bothered.
And if you don’t care for the birds you can go ice skating instead like a true Canadian!
What do you do to get outdoor in the city during the cold months of the year?
Thanks a lot for stopping by – would love to hear your comments! Did you like the bird pictures by the way?
I am one of the weird folks that actually like to shovel snow! I find it theraputic, Inger!
Great wintertime photos. Thank you for the post!

Hehe…I haven’t heard of to many people actually enjoying shovelling snow – but I can see how it can fell therapeutic:) I save the snow shovelling for my husband that lucky duck;)

Thanks! It’s a nice way to get out and also get to practice your photography skills. We actually went out for a walk yesterday as well and grabbed some nice photos of the city that I’ll post later some time.

I go by Prince’s Island nearly daily. What is cute is in the spring with the mothers and ducklings wandering around by the Peace Bridge, etc.

I think it is a nice area to walk in – and perfect for an afternoon/evening walk if you live close by! Those ducklings are adorable, and don’t seem to be too bothered by all the people in the park:)

Regrettably I haven’t seen a beaver in the past 12 months. Probably because of problems they caused in plugging up the river…

I was not aware there used to be beavers in Princes Island, I haven’t seen any there, but as I was not aware they were there I didn’t look for them either. You think they have been taken out intentionally?

Hard to know unless one asks the Parks Dept. I did see beaver step out of its large twig cavern right by the Peace Bridge. That was before the flood.
