The Icefields Parkway, British Columbia You would normally not see Mountain Goats close up on your travels in the Rockies. They prefer to live high up in mountain cliffs to avoid predators so we were obviously thrilled when we came across this group of goats along the road on Icefields Parkway.
I later learned that this spot is a mineral rich silt deposit – often referred to as the ‘Goat Lick’. Mountain goats gather here to lick the silt for its calcium and sulphate content, so it is actually quite common to find Mountain Goat here.
Be careful when driving here – it can be quite a traffic jam at this spot as everyone want to have look!
